Anna Santallúsia Ballarín

Visiting Researcher

I am a biologist with a specialisation in Biodiversity and Ecology from the UB (University of Barcelona). I conducted my final Bachelor’s degree thesis during my internship at the NovelEco project, as part of Erasmus+. I quantified and identified vascular plants that grow in urban novel ecosystems (in particular in the core and peripheral areas of Dublin city), as well as their common traits that allow them to survive in those landscapes. Afterwards, during my Master’s in Earth Sciences at the UvA (University of Amsterdam), I conducted my final Master’s thesis in the PSECO (Plant-Soil Ecology group) in the GRASS4FUN project, and my research internship at NIOO-KNAW (Netherlands Institute of Ecology) in the NutNet project.

I specialise in how sustainable management practices can improve ecosystem functioning with a particular focus on plant-soil-microbe interactions. My academic background, together with my previous work experience at NIOO-KNAW as laboratory assistant in the SoilProS project and at UvA as laboratory assistant and also teaching assistant in the “Ecotoxicology and Environmental Quality course (5043ECEQ6Y)” has equipped me with strong experimental skills, as well as leadership and collaborative capabilities. My goal is to contribute to stop the accelerated loss of ecosystem functions caused by climate change, focusing on biodiversity conservation and sustainable management practices to ensure the provision of ecosystem services.
